Exploring Design and Technology: Practical Skills and Innovation

Pupils are introduced to basic design skills and graphics techniques and undertake a variety of construction projects (using wood, metal and plastic). This includes an introduction to CAD (Computer Aided Design) and digital manufacturing (3D printing).

The GCSE Design and Technology specification has been developed to become engaging and inspiring, it reflects the demands of a truly modern and evolving society. GCSE Design and Technology is a qualification that enables Pupils to apply themselves and develop the practical skills needed to succeed in their  chosen pathway. The mathematical content in the course will test Pupils’ application of mathematical skills in an applied context and accounts for 15% of the final marks. These skills are taught in Maths separately and will be reinforced during the design and technology teaching.
